First weekend of Hogs

Saturday was officially the start day of the 2015 Hog Dog season, and I can say that we may not have started with the largest number, but it is well underway.

We ended up with 5 over-all and before we begin I would like to clarify that all hogs were killed and skinned and were not left behind or wasted.

The first hog was a sow that Whitey, Tanner, and Rick bayed in a little slew about 100 yards from a big oat patch. The next boar was a long runner that kept the dogs out a while, but they finally got him down. Hogs 3 and 4 were also boars. Boar 5 was a decent sow that kept the dogs bayed in a deep Cypress Pond. We were all set to leave the pond when I just happened to look at the tracker and it was saying that Whitey was still in the slew... not moving... An hour later, my boyfriend, James and a friend of ours, Dale braved the murkey slew water to go get Whitey and carry him out. Bless his heart and had bayed till he dropped.
Half way to Whitey and already chest deep

Sunday was just as low in numbers, but one is better than none.

The first hog bayed in one of the thickest briar thickets on the place that we hunt. No bulldogs, simple easy catch. Hog number 2, however, was an interesting task. Little Chiwa was bayed like crazy. We were trying our best to get to them, and they bayed solid for almost an hour. When we finally got about 212 yards from the bay we decided that that was going to be the closest we could get, so Dad and Henry went into the bay alone because the hog was squeeling. But when they got there they realized they had more on their hands than what they bargained for. The started hollering back to the ranger for a bulldog... so I sent in my main man Charlie and they were still hollering for more... so I sent in Jase and then started in myself. About half way there I realized that I had forgotten the pistol and had to turn around and go back. Through a slew and thick briars I tracked my way to Charlie. He had done his job and caught the big anchor hog for the day.... He was killed and gutted and drug the 212 yards back to the ranger and we called it quits for the day... :)

Weekend two starts tomorrow!!
